WOMA is excited to announce a partnership with Amber Slaughter who will bring her coaching expertise to help individuals in the WOMA community meet their goals and live up to their full potential. Amber has her Associate Coach Certification from the International Coach Federation which is the governing body for all members. She decided in 2005 to transition out of her corporate IT career and pursue her dream of impacting the lives of women through life coaching. Recently, we caught up with Amber to discuss exactly what womanifesting means to her and how her skills as a Life Coach can assist women in their journey toward optimal womanifesting.
-------------------------------------------
WOMA:
What is the career path that led you to becoming a Life Coach?
Amber:
I kind of went about this in an informal way. Throughout my career, I didn't consider myself much of a people person until I was promoted to a leadership position with a number of direct reports. All of them had their unique set of needs and goals. It was at that point that I hired a coach for myself to bring out my leadership skills. Through my own receipt of coaching, I realized leadership is really about being in service. As I worked with my employees, I enjoyed mentoring and advising them on their careers and various aspects of their personal lives. I also learned that I was very skilled at it. This experience became the catalyst for me to start my own work as a coach.
WOMA:
What kind of skills do you need to be a great Life Coach?
Amber:
The skills that I find most critical for a coach are: Empathy, Directness, Curiosity, Patience, Understanding and Cheerleading. You might be wondering about the last skill I mentioned. However, as a coach, I pride myself on being my clients’ biggest cheerleader in cheering them onward to their successes and celebrating their victories.
WOMA:
What do you see as some of the barriers that women face in achieving their goals?
Amber:
Sometimes we don't really have a vision for where we want to go in life or lack the self-confidence to go after our dreams and goals. Some other issues I have encountered that we must work to overcome are -- the ability to self-promote, the tendency to compare someone else's life and successes to our lives instead of charting our own course, understanding that we are whole, complete and bring a unique perspective to life, and believing that it is possible to have everything we desire and need with focus and work.
WOMA:
What examples of womanifesting have you seen in your life?
Amber:
One example of womanifesting is the fact that I was determined enough to veer off a proven path to honor my desire to impact women in a greater way. I'm in the process of transitioning out of a very lucrative career to pursue my purpose and passion. I'm always looking for ways to be an inspiration and role model to others. In addition to my coaching, I teach leadership development workshops for teens.
WOMA:
In general, what is the first step in fulfilling your dreams?
Amber:
The first step in fulfilling your dreams is knowing what your hopes and dreams are and then having a guide that tells you how to get there and when you've arrived.
WOMA:
What will you offer to the WOMA community?
Amber:
I will offer inspiration and support to the WOMA community by hosting teleclasses and seminars to help the members in overcoming the obstacles that get in the way of achieving goals.
My first Teleseminar is “Vision Planning for Life” to be held on 7/12/10 at 5:30pm-CST. This session will guide participants through the step-by-step process of developing one’s own personal vision statement. All of the participants of this Teleseminar will also receive a free 30-minute coaching session to write your vision statement.
WOMA:
That is fabulous! We appreciate the important work that you do for women and girls. We could all use some guidance, support, accountability and most of all-cheerleading! We look forward to you sharing your coaching gifts with us. You are SO WOMA!
